{"id":10505,"date":"2020-07-30T06:19:50","date_gmt":"2020-07-30T06:19:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bengalnewstimes.com\/?p=10505"},"modified":"2020-07-30T06:19:50","modified_gmt":"2020-07-30T06:19:50","slug":"one-disease-mosquitoes-dont-spread-coronavirus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bengalnewstimes.com\/?p=10505","title":{"rendered":"One Disease Mosquitoes Don&#8217;t Spread: Coronavirus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>                            <img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"News Picture: One Disease Mosquitoes Don't Spread: Coronavirus\" class=\"healthday_image\" src=\"https:\/\/media.healthday.com\/Images\/icimages\/mosquito.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>WEDNESDAY, July 29, 2020 (HealthDay News)<\/p>\n<p>Although scientists haven&#8217;t nailed down how the new coronavirus jumped to humans, a new study confirms mosquitoes aren&#8217;t to blame &#8212; and you won&#8217;t get <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/wuhan_coronavirus_2019-ncov\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"dt\">COVID-19<\/a> from a mosquito bite.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;While the World Health Organization has definitively stated that mosquitoes cannot transmit the virus, our study is the first to provide conclusive data supporting the theory,&#8221; said study author Stephen Higgs. He is director of the Biosecurity Research Institute (BRI) at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas.<\/p>\n<p>The researchers found that the new coronavirus can&#8217;t replicate in three common species of mosquitoes &#8212; <i>Aedes aegypti<\/i>, <i>Aedes albopictus<\/i> and <i>Culex quinquefasciatus<\/i> &#8212; and therefore cannot be transmitted to humans.<\/p>\n<p>The study was published recently in the journal <i>Scientific Reports<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am proud of the work we are doing at K-State to learn as much as we can about this and other dangerous pathogens,&#8221; Higgs said in a Kansas State news release.<\/p>\n<p>BRI is a biosecurity level-3 facility, and researchers at BRI have completed four additional studies on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/wuhan_coronavirus_outbreak_2019-ncov\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"slide\">COVID-19<\/a> since March.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212; Robert Preidt<\/p>\n<p class=\"credits\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"MedicalNews\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/images.medicinenet.com\/images\/HealthDay\/healthday.png\" style=\"border: none;\"\/><br \/>Copyright \u00a9 2020 HealthDay.
