<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\nKolkata: BJP\u2019s significant breakthrough in Bengal during the 2019 Lok Sabha polls didn\u2019t facilitate better representation from the state in the Union Cabinet. With no central minister, it had to remain satisfied with two ministers of state, Babul Supriyo and Debasree Chaudhuri.
With a Cabinet expansion on the cards, expectations are high on more inclusion to give priority to Bengal ahead of the 2021 assembly polls.
A few names have been doing the rounds. The BJP top brass will take a decision keeping individual efficiency, co-mmunity representation and organizational needs in mind.
BJP central leaders want to consolidate the support it gained in north Bengal and Jangalmahal and the breakthrough in south Bengal. A look at the demographic profile throws up three broad communities apart from Muslims \u2014Rajbanshis, Adivasis and Matuas.
Going by perception, the probable names are BJP\u2019s Bongaon MP Shantanu Thakur from the Matua community, BJP MP from Jalpaiguri Jayanta Roy as Rajbanshi representative and BJP\u2019s Alipurduar MP John Barla from the Adivasi community.
BJP national secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya and party leader Mukul Roy have thrown their weight behind BJP\u2019s Cooch Behar MP Nisith Pramanik on organizational grounds. \u201cThere is a likelihood that PM Modi will look forward to more representation from Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities this time,\u201d said a state BJP leader.
The other name in the reckoning is BJP MP from Bankura Subhas Sarkar. Sarkar, a doctor, has command over his constituency. A swayamsevak for long, he is a vice-president of Bengal BJP and has held official positions for over a decade.
Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh, however, said there is no room for speculation at this juncture. \u201cCentral leaders are yet to inform us about accommodating any one from Bengal,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n
