A civic volunteer was brutally murdered right in the heart of Kolkata allegedly by a group of drunk men near Hastings Shrine under Vidyasagar Bridge post midnight on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Sources told India Today TV that a few intoxicated men attacked the civic volunteer, identified as Irshad Hossain alias Mohammad Sunny, and smashed his head with a brick.<\/p>\n

The deceased, a civic volunteer of Maidan police station, saw a group of people drinking near the Hastings shrine at midnight after which an altercation took place between him and the accused men.<\/p>\n

The civic volunteer was not on duty at that time. Nevertheless, he tried to stop them after which the accused attacked him with a brick.<\/p>\n

Later, his head was knocked against the iron deck of Vidyasagar Bridge several times.<\/p>\n

Sunny fell unconscious on the street. He was rushed to SSKM hospital by locals where doctors declared him dead.<\/p>\n

Police are investigating the case. So far three people have been arrested in the case.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
