{"id":14277,"date":"2020-08-12T05:34:56","date_gmt":"2020-08-12T05:34:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bengalnewstimes.com\/?p=14277"},"modified":"2020-08-12T05:34:56","modified_gmt":"2020-08-12T05:34:56","slug":"gynecological-exam-heart-screening-should-go-hand-in-hand","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bengalnewstimes.com\/?p=14277","title":{"rendered":"Gynecological Exam, Heart Screening Should Go Hand-in-Hand"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>                            <img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"News Picture: Gynecological Exam, Heart Screening Should Go Hand-in-Hand\" class=\"healthday_image\" src=\"https:\/\/media.healthday.com\/Images\/icimages\/SS36047.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>MONDAY, Aug. 10, 2020 (HealthDay News)<\/p>\n<p>What if you were given a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/heart_how_the_heart_works\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"dt\">heart<\/a> screening when you see your gynecologist?<\/p>\n<p>New research suggests that such a strategy might be smart medicine.<\/p>\n<p>Scientists found that 86% of women seen at an outpatient gynecology clinic had a cardiovascular risk factor and 40% had at least one cardiovascular symptom, but there was low awareness of cardiovascular risk factors and symptoms among the women.<\/p>\n<p>The level of awareness of risk factors such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/high_blood_pressure_hypertension\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"dt\">high blood pressure<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/high_cholesterol_frequently_asked_questions\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"dt\">high cholesterol<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/obesity_weight_loss\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"dt\">obesity<\/a> was somewhat higher among those with a history of adverse <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/pregnancy_planning_preparing_for_pregnancy\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"dt\">pregnancy<\/a> outcomes, but those without such a history were more likely to have risk factors and cardiovascular symptoms such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/angina_symptoms\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"dt\">angina<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/shortness_of_breath\/symptoms.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"sym\">shortness of breath<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The study was published recently in the <i>Journal of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/womens_health\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"dt\">Women&#8217;s Health<\/a><\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>For many women, a visit to the gynecologist is their only form of primary health care, so improving <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/heart_how_the_heart_works\/article.htm\" rel=\"dt\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\">heart<\/a> screening in ob-gyn clinics may improve detection of heart problems in women, researcher Dr. Roxana Mehran, from Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City, said in a journal news release.<\/p>\n<p>The international team of researchers also concluded that a simple questionnaire works well in gynecology clinics for assessing women&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/heart_disease_coronary_artery_disease\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"dt\">heart disease<\/a> risk.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This compelling paper emphasizes how far we are from achieving optimal cognizance of [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/heart_disease_pictures_slideshow_visual_guide\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"slide\">heart disease<\/a>] risk factors in addition to identifying symptoms of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/angina_symptoms\/article.htm\" rel=\"dt\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\">angina<\/a> among all women, particularly perimenopausal women and those with a history of adverse <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/pregnancy_planning_preparing_for_pregnancy\/article.htm\" rel=\"dt\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\">pregnancy<\/a> outcomes,&#8221; Dr. Gina Lundberg, from Emory Women&#8217;s Heart Center in Atlanta, wrote in an accompanying editorial.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212; Robert Preidt<\/p>\n<p class=\"credits\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"MedicalNews\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/images.medicinenet.com\/images\/HealthDay\/healthday.png\" style=\"border: none;\"\/><br \/>Copyright \u00a9 2020 HealthDay.
