{"id":14282,"date":"2020-08-12T05:54:12","date_gmt":"2020-08-12T05:54:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bengalnewstimes.com\/?p=14282"},"modified":"2020-08-12T05:54:12","modified_gmt":"2020-08-12T05:54:12","slug":"new-iv-opioid-approved-for-use-in-controlled-settings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bengalnewstimes.com\/?p=14282","title":{"rendered":"New IV Opioid Approved for Use in Controlled Settings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>                            <img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"News Picture: New IV Opioid Approved for Use in Controlled Settings\" class=\"healthday_image\" src=\"https:\/\/media.healthday.com\/Images\/icimages\/fda.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>MONDAY, Aug. 10, 2020 (HealthDay News)<\/p>\n<p>The opioid Olinvyk (oliceridine) was granted approval for the management of moderate-to-severe acute <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/pain_management\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"dt\">pain<\/a> in controlled settings, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Olinvyk is indicated for short-term intravenous use in adults with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/pain_quiz\/quiz.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"quiz\">pain<\/a> that is severe enough to require an intravenous opioid and who are inadequately treated with other alternatives. The drug is approved only for use in hospitals or other controlled settings and is not for at-home use. The maximum recommended daily dose is 27 mg.<\/p>\n<p>Approval was based on phase 3 data from clinical and open-label trials that included a total of 1,535 patients with moderate-to-severe acute <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/pain_management\/article.htm\" rel=\"dt\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\">pain<\/a>. Compared with patients randomly assigned to placebo, those who received Olinvyk after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/bunions\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"dt\">bunion<\/a> or abdominal surgery reported decreased <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/pain_quiz\/quiz.htm\" rel=\"quiz\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\">pain<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As with other opioids, common side effects of Olinvyk are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/nausea_and_vomiting\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"dt\">nausea<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/nausea_and_vomiting\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"dt\">vomiting<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/dizziness_dizzy\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"dt\">dizziness<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/headache\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"dt\">headache<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/constipation\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"dt\">constipation<\/a>. Olinvyk is contraindicated for patients with significant respiratory <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/depression\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"dt\">depression<\/a>, acute or severe bronchial <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/asthma_overview\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"dt\">asthma<\/a> in an unmonitored setting, gastrointestinal obstruction, or known hypersensitivity to Olinvyk.
