{"id":14959,"date":"2020-08-14T08:32:42","date_gmt":"2020-08-14T08:32:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bengalnewstimes.com\/?p=14959"},"modified":"2020-08-14T08:32:42","modified_gmt":"2020-08-14T08:32:42","slug":"dont-use-hand-sanitizers-tainted-with-1-propanol-fda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bengalnewstimes.com\/?p=14959","title":{"rendered":"Don&#8217;t Use Hand Sanitizers Tainted With 1-Propanol: FDA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"News_list_rdr art\">\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<h3>Latest Prevention &amp; Wellness News<\/h3>\n<p>&#13;\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>THURSDAY, Aug. 13, 2020 (HealthDay News) &#8212; The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is warning people not to use hand sanitizers made by Harmonic Nature S de RL de MI in Mexico.<\/p>\n<p>These products say they contain ethanol or isopropyl <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/alcohol_metabolism\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"webmdlt\">alcohol<\/a> but are contaminated with 1-propanol, which is not approved for hand sanitizer sold in the United States and can be toxic and life-threatening if ingested.<\/p>\n<p>Young children who accidentally drink these products and adolescents and adults who drink these products as an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/alcohol_metabolism\/article.htm\" rel=\"webmdlt\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\">alcohol<\/a> substitute are those most at risk. Drinking 1-propanol can cause central nervous system <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/depression\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"dt\">depression<\/a> that can be fatal.<\/p>\n<p>Symptoms of 1-propanol exposure can include <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/confusion\/symptoms.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"sym\">confusion<\/a>, decreased consciousness, and slowed pulse and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/lungs_design_and_purpose\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"dt\">breathing<\/a>. People with these symptoms should get immediate medical care.<\/p>\n<p>When skin or eyes are exposed to 1-propanol they can become irritated, and some cases of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/allergy\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"dt\">allergic<\/a> skin reactions can occur.<\/p>\n<p>Consumers who have these products should stop using them and throw them out in a hazardous waste container, the FDA said.<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t pour these products down the drain or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/hot_flashes\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"dt\">flush<\/a> them, the agency noted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"credits\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"MedicalNews\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/images.medicinenet.com\/images\/HealthDay\/healthday.png\" style=\"border: none;\"\/><br \/>Copyright \u00a9 2019 HealthDay.
