{"id":15793,"date":"2020-08-18T05:03:01","date_gmt":"2020-08-18T05:03:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bengalnewstimes.com\/?p=15793"},"modified":"2020-08-18T05:03:01","modified_gmt":"2020-08-18T05:03:01","slug":"cyclospora-outbreak-source-still-unknown-fda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bengalnewstimes.com\/?p=15793","title":{"rendered":"Cyclospora Outbreak Source Still Unknown: FDA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"News_list_rdr art\">\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<h3>Latest Infectious Disease News<\/h3>\n<p>&#13;\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>MONDAY, Aug. 17, 2020 (HealthDay News) &#8212; The source of an outbreak of Cyclospora infections that have affected 690 people in 13 states is still unknown, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration says.<\/p>\n<p>The outbreak may be linked to salad products made by Fresh Express that contain iceberg lettuce and red cabbage and were sold in several regions of the U.S., including Fresh Express branded products as well as products made by Fresh Express for retail store brands sold at ALDI, Giant Eagle, Hy-Vee, Jewel-Osco, ShopRite, and Walmart.<\/p>\n<p>The products, which have the product code Z178 or a lower number, and &#8220;Best by&#8221; dates through July 14, 2020 were recalled by Fresh Express on June 27.<\/p>\n<p>The FDA&#8217;s investigation identified several farms in the U.S. that may have provided product used in the recalled Fresh Express salads that were recalled, and found Cyclospora in samples collected from an irrigation canal in Florida.<\/p>\n<p>However, the FDA wasn&#8217;t able to determine if the Cyclospora in the canal is a genetic match to outbreak-causing variety, so there&#8217;s currently not enough evidence to conclusively determine the cause of this outbreak.<\/p>\n<p>The FDA said it&#8217;s continuing to try to determine the source and impact of Cyclospora in the canal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"credits\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"MedicalNews\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/images.medicinenet.com\/images\/HealthDay\/healthday.png\" style=\"border: none;\"\/><br \/>Copyright \u00a9 2019 HealthDay.
