{"id":23938,"date":"2020-09-23T03:44:57","date_gmt":"2020-09-23T03:44:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bengalnewstimes.com\/?p=23938"},"modified":"2020-09-23T03:44:57","modified_gmt":"2020-09-23T03:44:57","slug":"singapore-central-bank-closely-studying-reports-on-suspicious-bank-transfers-bfsi-news-et-bfsi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bengalnewstimes.com\/?p=23938","title":{"rendered":"Singapore central bank &#8216;closely studying&#8217; reports on suspicious bank transfers, BFSI News, ET BFSI"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>The <a href=\"https:\/\/bfsi.economictimes.indiatimes.com\/tag\/monetary+authority\">Monetary Authority<\/a> of <a href=\"https:\/\/bfsi.economictimes.indiatimes.com\/tag\/singapore\">Singapore<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/bfsi.economictimes.indiatimes.com\/tag\/mas\">MAS<\/a>) said on Tuesday that it was &#8216;closely studying&#8217; media reports that Singapore banks had informed U.S. regulators of <a href=\"https:\/\/bfsi.economictimes.indiatimes.com\/tag\/suspicious+transactions\">suspicious transactions<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The move came as global banks faced a fresh scandal about dirty money on Monday as they sought to limit the fallout from a cache of leaked documents showing they transferred more than $2 trillion in suspect funds over nearly two decades.<\/p>\n<p>Banks from many countries were named in the report by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists and based on leaked documents obtained by BuzzFeed News.<\/p>\n<p>The report was based on 2,100 leaked suspicious activity reports (SARs), covering transactions between 1999 and 2017, filed by banks and other financial firms with the U.S. Department of Treasury&#8217;s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN).<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;MAS is aware that Singapore banks were mentioned in media reports on suspicious transaction reports filed with FinCEN,&#8221; the city-state&#8217;s central bank said in an email on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Although suspicious transaction reports in and of themselves do not imply that the transactions are illicit, MAS takes such reports very seriously,&#8221; it said.<\/p>\n<p>It said it will take &#8220;appropriate action&#8221; based on the outcome of its review, adding that &#8220;Singapore&#8217;s regulatory framework to combat <a href=\"https:\/\/bfsi.economictimes.indiatimes.com\/tag\/money+laundering\">money laundering<\/a> meets international standards set by the Financial Action Task Force.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>(Reporting by Anshuman Daga; Editing by Shri Navaratnam)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><script async defer crossorigin=\"anonymous\" src=\"https:\/\/connect.facebook.net\/en_US\/sdk.js#xfbml=1&#038;version=v4.0\"><\/script><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\\\"https:\/\/bfsi.economictimes.indiatimes.com\/news\/banking\/78267399?utm_source=RSS&#038;utm_medium=ETRSS\\\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) said on Tuesday that it was &#8216;closely studying&#8217; media reports that Singapore banks had informed U.S. regulators of suspicious transactions.
