{"id":26400,"date":"2020-10-22T05:51:43","date_gmt":"2020-10-22T05:51:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bengalnewstimes.com\/?p=26400"},"modified":"2020-10-22T05:51:43","modified_gmt":"2020-10-22T05:51:43","slug":"covid-related-deaths-hit-300000-cdc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bengalnewstimes.com\/?p=26400","title":{"rendered":"COVID-Related Deaths Hit 300,000: CDC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>WEDNESDAY, Oct. 21, 2020 (HealthDay News) &#8212; A new report from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/prevention\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"dt\">Prevention<\/a> says that as of early October nearly 300,000 Americans have died from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/wuhan_coronavirus_2019-ncov\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"dt\">COVID-19<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>These deaths include those directly caused by the virus and almost 100,000 that would not have happened if not for the virus. These include deaths from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/wuhan_coronavirus_outbreak_2019-ncov\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"slide\">COVID-19<\/a> that were misclassified or missed and deaths from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/heart_attack\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"dt\">heart attacks<\/a> that weren&#8217;t treated because victims were afraid to go to the hospital, <i>The New York Times<\/i> reported Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The largest percentage increase in excess deaths is among young adults aged 25 to 44, a 27% increase, compared with a 14% increase among those over 85.<\/p>\n<p>Excess deaths among Blacks and Hispanics of all ages also rose, compared with past years &#8212; 33% and 54% respectively.
