Hartman, from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, and colleagues integrated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/cancer_101_pictures_slideshow\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"slide\">cancer<\/a> mortality estimates and data on the consequences of treatment delay to aid treatment decisions and improve patient outcomes. The model used age-specific and stage-specific estimates of overall survival pre-<a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/wuhan_coronavirus_outbreak_2019-ncov\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"slide\">COVID-19<\/a>, which were adjusted for the probability of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/wuhan_coronavirus_2019-ncov_symptoms_and_signs\/symptoms.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"sym\">COVID-19<\/a> (individualized by county, treatment-specific variables, hospital exposure frequency, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/wuhan_coronavirus_2019-ncov\/article.htm\" rel=\"dt\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\">COVID-19<\/a> infectivity estimates), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/wuhan_coronavirus_outbreak_2019-ncov\/article.htm\" rel=\"slide\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\">COVID-19<\/a> mortality (individualized by age-specific, comorbidity-specific, and treatment-specific variables), and delay of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/cancer_quiz\/quiz.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"quiz\">cancer<\/a> treatment (impact and duration).<\/p>\n<p>The researchers report that the OncCOVID web application allows for the selection of up to 47 individualized variables to assess net survival for an individual patient with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/cancer\/article.htm\" rel=\"dt\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\">cancer<\/a>. There was substantial heterogeneity noted in the association between delayed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/cancer_101_pictures_slideshow\/article.htm\" rel=\"slide\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\">cancer<\/a> treatment and net survival among patients with a given <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/cancer_quiz\/quiz.htm\" rel=\"quiz\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\">cancer<\/a> type and stage. These two variables were insufficient to discriminate the net impact of immediate versus delayed treatment.
