A total of 137 patients who officially recovered from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/wuhan_coronavirus_2019-ncov_symptoms_and_signs\/symptoms.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"sym\">COVID-19<\/a> were enrolled between April 21 and May 21, 2020; the analysis was conducted in June 2020.<\/p>\n<p>The researchers found that 16.7 percent of the 131 patients who repeated the nasopharyngeal swab tested positive again. A considerable proportion of patients still had symptoms such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/fatigue\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"dt\">fatigue<\/a>, dyspnea, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/chronic_cough\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"dt\">coughing<\/a> (51, 44, and 18 percent, respectively), with no difference noted between those with a positive or negative test. Participants with persistent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/sore_throat_pharyngitis\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"dt\">sore throat<\/a> and symptoms of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/chronic_rhinitis\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"dt\">rhinitis<\/a> had a significantly higher likelihood of testing positive for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/severe_acute_respiratory_syndrome_symptoms\/symptoms.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"sym\">SARS<\/a>-CoV-2 (prevalence ratios, 6.50 and 3.72, respectively).<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our findings indicate that a noteworthy rate of recovered patients with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/wuhan_coronavirus_2019-ncov\/article.htm\" rel=\"dt\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\">COVID-19<\/a> could still be asymptomatic carriers of the virus,&#8221; Landi said in a statement. &#8220;The main question for the containment of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/severe_acute_respiratory_syndrome_sars\/article.htm\" rel=\"dt\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\">SARS<\/a>-CoV-2 pandemic infection that still needs to be answered is whether persistent presence of virus fragments means the [patient] is still <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/contagious_quiz\/quiz.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"quiz\">contagious<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ajpmonline.org\/article\/S0749-3797(20)30393-7\/fulltext\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Abstract\/Full Text<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Physician&#8217;s Briefing Staff<\/p>\n<p class=\"credits\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"MedicalNews\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/images.medicinenet.com\/images\/HealthDay\/healthday.png\" style=\"border: none;\"\/><br \/>Copyright \u00a9 2020 HealthDay.
