The researchers found that 18% presented with gastrointestinal symptoms, while 16% may only have those symptoms.<\/p>\n<p>Though COVID gastrointestinal symptoms vary widely, they can include <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/loss_of_appetite\/symptoms.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"sym\">loss of appetite<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/nausea_and_vomiting\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"dt\">nausea<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/nausea_and_vomiting\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"dt\">vomiting<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/diarrhea\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"dt\">diarrhea<\/a> and generalized <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/abdominal_pain_causes_remedies_treatment\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"dt\">abdominal pain<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There&#8217;s a growing amount of literature showing that abdominal symptomatology is a common presentation for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/wuhan_coronavirus_outbreak_2019-ncov\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"slide\">COVID-19<\/a>,&#8221; said study co-author Mitch Wilson, a radiologist and clinical lecturer at the university.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers urge abdominal radiologists to remain vigilant while imaging patients during the pandemic. During imaging, they should look for signs of inflammation of the bowel, air within the bowel wall and bowel perforation. Though these signs are rare, they could suggest patients have advanced disease.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Seeing these things is not necessarily telling us a patient has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/wuhan_coronavirus_2019-ncov_symptoms_and_signs\/symptoms.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"sym\">COVID-19<\/a>,&#8221; Wilson said in a university news release. &#8220;It could be from a variety of potential causes.
