{"id":3423,"date":"2020-06-30T20:27:29","date_gmt":"2020-06-30T20:27:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bengalnewstimes.com\/?p=3423"},"modified":"2020-06-30T20:27:29","modified_gmt":"2020-06-30T20:27:29","slug":"an-experts-guide-to-keeping-bad-dreams-at-bay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bengalnewstimes.com\/?p=3423","title":{"rendered":"An Expert&#8217;s Guide to Keeping Bad Dreams at Bay"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>                            <img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"News Picture: An Expert's Guide to Keeping Bad Dreams at Bay\" class=\"healthday_image\" src=\"https:\/\/media.healthday.com\/Images\/icimages\/daylight_savings39.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>SATURDAY, June 27, 2020 (HealthDay News)<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re having <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/nightmares\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"dt\">nightmares<\/a> during these stressful times, rest easy: A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/sleep\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"dt\">sleep<\/a> expert says it&#8217;s to be expected.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Your experiences and interactions during the day can affect your dreams, and right now many of us are spending time watching the news or reading articles that are downright scary,&#8221; said Jennifer Martin, a director of the American Academy of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/sleep_quiz\/quiz.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"quiz\">Sleep<\/a> Medicine. &#8220;It&#8217;s natural that the fears and stressors of daily life make their way into our dreams.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This is called dream incorporation, and it occurs when your real-life experiences show up in your dreams, she explained in an academy news release.<\/p>\n<p>Martin added that changes in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/sleep\/article.htm\" rel=\"dt\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\">sleep<\/a> patterns &#8212; including fragmented <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/sleep_quiz\/quiz.htm\" rel=\"quiz\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\">sleep<\/a> &#8212; can make people sleep less soundly, which means they remember more of their dreams.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Most of your dreams take place during the &#8216;rapid eye movement&#8217; or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/sleep\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"dt\">REM sleep<\/a> stage,&#8221; Martin said. &#8220;Typically, you&#8217;ll need to wake up during or shortly after a dream to remember it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>You can reduce disturbing dreams by getting a good night&#8217;s sleep, so Martin offered some tips.<\/p>\n<p>Have consistent times for going to sleep and waking up. Adults need seven or more hours a night on a regular basis for ideal health.<\/p>\n<p>Limit your exposure to stressful news near bedtime so you&#8217;re not dwelling on it as you try to doze off.<\/p>\n<p>For at least 30 minutes before turning off the lights, prepare your body for sleep. Some good ways to unwind include reading, listening to soothing music or meditating.<\/p>\n<p>Limit your consumption of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/alcohol_metabolism\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"webmdlt\">alcohol<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/caffeine\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"sub\">caffeine<\/a>, because both can disrupt sleep quality.<\/p>\n<p>Deal with your worries and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/stress\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"dt\">stress<\/a> during the day.
