the Digital Covid Certificate &#8211; is being rolled out across all 27 member nations.<\/b><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\" class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i84\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-18snukc-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph eq5iqo00\">Who can use it and what does it mean for UK travellers heading to Europe?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><h2 class=\"ssrcss-ve3352-StyledHeading e1fj1fc10\">What is the Digital Covid Certificate?<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<div data-component=\"unordered-list-block\" class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i84\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-18snukc-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-1pzprxn-BulletListContainer e5tfeyi0\">\n<ul role=\"list\">\n<li>been vaccinated against Covid-19<\/li>\n<li>recently had a negative PCR test for the virus<\/li>\n<li>recently recovered from Covid-19<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\" class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i84\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-18snukc-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph eq5iqo00\">It&#8217;s available in, and recognised by, all 27 EU member states &#8211; plus Switzerland, Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein.  <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\" class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i84\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-18snukc-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph eq5iqo00\">It&#8217;s free &#8211; and all EU citizens, as well as non-EU nationals legally staying or living in the member states (with the right to travel to other member states) can download it or obtain a paper copy.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\" class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i84\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-18snukc-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph eq5iqo00\">Some countries have already been using the certificate on a voluntary basis &#8211; at an airport, for example.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><h2 class=\"ssrcss-ve3352-StyledHeading e1fj1fc10\">Why is it needed?<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\" class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i84\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-18snukc-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph eq5iqo00\">It&#8217;s hoped the certificate will make it easier for people to travel around the EU.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\" class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i84\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-18snukc-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph eq5iqo00\">It is not a travel document &#8211; they will still need to carry a passport or another form of identification. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\" class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i84\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-18snukc-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph eq5iqo00\">But anyone holding a certificate should, in principle, be exempted from testing or quarantine when crossing an international border. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><h2 class=\"ssrcss-ve3352-StyledHeading e1fj1fc10\">Is it the same as the UK&#8217;s NHS Covid Pass?<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\" class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i84\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-18snukc-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph eq5iqo00\">It&#8217;s not the same &#8211; but both show the same information and aim to make it simple for someone to show their Covid status.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\" class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i84\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-18snukc-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph eq5iqo00\">The digital <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/conditions\/coronavirus-covid-19\/covid-pass\/\" class=\"ssrcss-9nsdc6-InlineLink e1no5rhv0\">NHS Covid Pass<\/a> can be accessed via the existing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/nhs-app\/\" class=\"ssrcss-9nsdc6-InlineLink e1no5rhv0\">NHS app<\/a>. A paper version can be requested by calling 119. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\" class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i84\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-18snukc-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph eq5iqo00\">For people aged 16 and over in England, it shows proof of:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-component=\"unordered-list-block\" class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i84\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-18snukc-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-1pzprxn-BulletListContainer e5tfeyi0\">\n<ul role=\"list\">\n<li>vaccination<\/li>\n<li>a negative PCR  test<\/li>\n<li>recovery from Covid-19<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><h2 class=\"ssrcss-ve3352-StyledHeading e1fj1fc10\">Will the EU recognise the NHS Covid Pass?<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\" class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i84\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-18snukc-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph eq5iqo00\">Not yet &#8211; but some individual countries, such as Greece and Spain, are already accepting it.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\" class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i84\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-18snukc-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph eq5iqo00\">If it&#8217;s satisfied a non-EU certificate complies with EU &#8220;standards and systems&#8221;, it can decide to accept it across all 27 nations.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\" class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i84\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-18snukc-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph eq5iqo00\">The UK government says free and open travel is a priority. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\" class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i84\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-18snukc-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph eq5iqo00\">&#8220;We are engaging the European Commission on reopening travel routes from the UK,&#8221; an official said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\" class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i84\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-18snukc-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph eq5iqo00\">If you are an EU national who was vaccinated in the UK, it is up to your home country whether you are eligible for the EU certificate.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-component=\"image-block\" class=\"ssrcss-18mjolk-ComponentWrapper class=\"ssrcss-hmf8ql-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">Comirnaty<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b class=\"ssrcss-hmf8ql-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">Oxford-AstraZeneca (AZ)<\/b> is known as <b class=\"ssrcss-hmf8ql-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">Vaxzevria<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b class=\"ssrcss-hmf8ql-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">Moderna<\/b> is known as <b class=\"ssrcss-hmf8ql-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">Spikevax<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b class=\"ssrcss-hmf8ql-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">Janssen<\/b> (sometimes referred to as the Johnson &amp; Johnson vaccine) is the same as in the UK<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\" class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i84\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-18snukc-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph eq5iqo00\">But AZ vaccine doses manufactured by the Serum Institute in India (SII) are also known by a third name &#8211; Covishield. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\" class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i84\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-18snukc-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph eq5iqo00\">And while they are identical to those made in Europe, the EU has not authorised them for use.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><h2 class=\"ssrcss-ve3352-StyledHeading e1fj1fc10\">Does it matter Covishield is not EU-approved?<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\" class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i84\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-18snukc-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph eq5iqo00\">Covishield is widely used in poorer countries, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/world-55795297\" class=\"ssrcss-9nsdc6-InlineLink e1no5rhv0\">via the Covax vaccine programme<\/a>, and there&#8217;s concern the EU passport will discriminate against travellers from those nations.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\" class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i84\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-18snukc-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph eq5iqo00\">The European Medicines Agency (EMA) doesn&#8217;t need to approve AZ&#8217;s manufacturing site in India, because the EU isn&#8217;t receiving any doses from there.  <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\" class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i84\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-18snukc-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph eq5iqo00\">But the Serum Institute <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/world-asia-india-57633980\" class=\"ssrcss-9nsdc6-InlineLink e1no5rhv0\">is understood<\/a> to be seeking emergency EU authorisation for Covishield.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\" class=\"ssrcss-uf6wea-RichTextComponentWrapper e1xue1i84\">\n<div class=\"ssrcss-18snukc-RichTextContainer e5tfeyi1\">\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph eq5iqo00\">AstraZeneca also says it&#8217;s working with the EMA on the &#8220;inclusion of Covishield as a recognised vaccine for immunisation passports&#8221;. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-component=\"image-block\" class=\"ssrcss-18mjolk-ComponentWrapper e1xue1i89\">\n<figure class=\"ssrcss-md0xev-StyledFigure e34k3c23\">\n<div
