{"id":6012,"date":"2020-07-14T06:32:59","date_gmt":"2020-07-14T06:32:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bengalnewstimes.com\/?p=6012"},"modified":"2020-07-14T06:32:59","modified_gmt":"2020-07-14T06:32:59","slug":"slow-test-results-hampering-u-s-fight-against-coronavirus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bengalnewstimes.com\/?p=6012","title":{"rendered":"Slow Test Results Hampering U.S. Fight Against Coronavirus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>MONDAY, July 13, 2020 (HealthDay News) &#8212; Test results for the new coronavirus are taking so long that they&#8217;re doing little to help stop the spread of the virus in the United States, experts say.<\/p>\n<p>Outbreaks in some Southern states have pushed testing labs beyond capacity, with some having difficulty providing results in five to seven days, and others taking even longer, the <i>Washington Post<\/i> reported.<\/p>\n<p>Those delays mean the United States can&#8217;t employ the main strategy used by other countries to contain the virus: test, trace and isolate.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Instead of going from one step to the next, it&#8217;s like you&#8217;re already stumbling right out of the gate,&#8221; Crystal Watson, a public health expert at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, told the <i>Post<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It makes contact tracing almost useless,&#8221; Watson said. &#8220;By the time a person is getting results, they already have symptoms, their contacts may already have symptoms and have gone on to infect others.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"credits\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"MedicalNews\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/images.medicinenet.com\/images\/HealthDay\/healthday.png\" style=\"border: none;\"\/><br \/>Copyright \u00a9 2019 HealthDay.
