{"id":7894,"date":"2020-07-21T06:46:04","date_gmt":"2020-07-21T06:46:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bengalnewstimes.com\/?p=7894"},"modified":"2020-07-21T06:46:04","modified_gmt":"2020-07-21T06:46:04","slug":"pooled-sampling-approved-for-covid-19-test","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bengalnewstimes.com\/?p=7894","title":{"rendered":"Pooled Sampling Approved for COVID-19 Test"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>MONDAY, July 20, 2020 (HealthDay News) &#8212; An emergency use authorization has been issued for the Quest Diagnostics&#8217; Quest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/severe_acute_respiratory_syndrome_sars\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"dt\">SARS<\/a>-CoV-2 rRT-<a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/pcr_polymerase_chain_reaction\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"proc\">PCR<\/a> test for use with pooled samples containing up to four individual swab specimens collected under observation, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The test is the first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/wuhan_coronavirus_2019-ncov\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"dt\">COVID-19<\/a> diagnostic test to be authorized for use with pooled samples.<\/p>\n<p>Sample pooling is an important public health tool because it allows for more people to be tested quickly using fewer testing resources, according to the FDA.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This EUA for sample pooling is an important step forward in getting more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinenet.com\/wuhan_coronavirus_outbreak_2019-ncov\/article.htm\" onclick=\"wmdTrack('embd-lnk');\" rel=\"slide\">COVID-19<\/a> tests to more Americans more quickly while preserving testing supplies,&#8221; FDA Commissioner Dr. Stephen Hahn said in an agency news release. &#8220;Sample pooling becomes especially important as infection rates decline and we begin testing larger portions of the population.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"credits\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"MedicalNews\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/images.medicinenet.com\/images\/HealthDay\/healthday.png\" style=\"border: none;\"\/><br \/>Copyright \u00a9 2019 HealthDay.
