And there\u2019s nothing further to add.<\/p>\n<p>HDFC Bank\u2019s Managing Director and Chief Executive Aditya Puri on Saturday while addressing shareholders in the annual general meeting had said that \u201cdisciplinary action\u201d has been taken against a few employees from the auto loans business for exhibiting \u201cpersonal misconduct\u201c.<\/p>\n<p>Puri denied there being any \u201cconflict of interest\u201d found by a probe launched following whistleblower complaints.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEnquiry did bring out another aspect related to personal misconduct exhibited by a set of individuals for which appropriate disciplinary actions have been taken,\u201d Puri had said.<\/p>\n<p>There are allegations that GPS devices were bundled along with the loan and those who refused to take it were generally denied loan sanction.<\/p>\n<p>The Banking Regulation Act, 1949, stipulates certain businesses that a bank may engage in, apart from its role as a lender. These have been defined under 15 broad sub-categories and the Act clearly states that no banking company shall engage in any form of business other than those referred to in sub-section (1)\u201c.<\/p>\n<p>A former group head of secured vehicle loans was denied an extension after receiving two post-retirement extensions in March.<\/p>\n<p>Auto loans contributed a fifth of the bank\u2019s retail loans and a tenth of its overall assets. Gold 1820, Bitcoin 9.2k <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/sB86DVt9mo\">pic.twitter.com\/sB86DVt9mo<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Holger Zschaepitz (@Schuldensuehner) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Schuldensuehner\/status\/1285463824347299840?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 21, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>2:30 PM<\/p>\n<h2>Passenger vehicle sales dip 38% in June as COVID-19 continues to impact offtake: FADA<\/h2>\n<p>The path back to normalcy is taking longer than many expected.<\/p>\n<p><em>PTI<\/em> reports: &#8220;Passenger vehicle retail sales in June fell 38.34 per cent to 1,26,417 units as compared to the same month last year as COVID-19 continued to impact the sentiment of buyers, automobile dealers\u2019 body FADA said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>According to Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), which collected vehicle registration data from 1,230 out of the 1,440 regional transport offices (RTOs), passenger vehicle sales stood at 2,05,011 units in June 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Two-wheeler sales declined 40.92 per cent to 7,90,118 units last month as compared with 13,37,462 units in June 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Commercial vehicle sales plunged 83.83 per cent to 10,509 units as against 64,976 units in the year-ago period.<\/p>\n<p>Three-wheeler sales fell 75.43 per cent to 11,993 units last month as compared with 48,804 units in June 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Total sales across categories slipped 42 per cent to 9,84,395 units in June 2020 as against 16,97,166 units in the year-ago month.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on the June retail sales, FADA President Ashish Harsharaj Kale said the overall weak economic sentiment coupled with rising number of COVID-19 patients has impacted consumer confidence especially in bigger cities.<\/p>\n<p>He, however, noted that rural markets, led by a robust crop harvest and timely arrival of monsoons, witnessed demand recovery in comparison to urban areas, therefore leading to a surge in retail sales of tractors as well as positively impacting offtake of two- wheelers and small commercial vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>Kale urged the government for urgent introduction of attractive incentive based vehicle scrappage policy for the revival of commercial vehicle sector.<\/p>\n<p>On sales outlook for July, Kale said:\u201cWith an assumption of no further lockdown and continued reopening measures, it is anticipated that vehicle registrations will see somewhat similar trends and mostly will better the June numbers, with further green shoots of demand in newer geographies and segments.\u201d&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>2:00 PM<\/p>\n<h2>\u00a0Zoom opens new technology centre in Bengaluru <\/h2>\n<p>U.S.-headquartered Zoom Video Communications on Tuesday announced opening of a new technology center in India, while also committing to hire \u2018key talent\u2019 here over the next few years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis commitment represents a growing strategic investment in the country, where Zoom already has one office in Mumbai (which is expected to triple in size) and two data centers in Mumbai and Hyderabad,\u201d the company said, adding that the move is a direct response to Zoom\u2019s increased level of adoption by users across India.<\/p>\n<p>With consumers turning to video conferencing solutions to interact amid <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/topic\/coronavirus\/\">COVID-19 pandemic<\/a>, Zoom Video has seen a 6700% growth in free user sign ups in India between January-April 2020. Its price of 75 rupees ($1.00) per tablet compares to 600 rupees per tablet in Russia, and between 200 rupees and 380 rupees per tablet in China, Bangladesh and Japan.<\/p>\n<p>The concerns on overpricing and allegations regarding Glenmark&#8217;s claims of effectiveness of the drug in co-morbid conditions like hypertension and diabetes were raised by a member of India&#8217;s parliament, and were sent to the company by the DCGI in a letter dated July 17.<\/p>\n<p>The statement pertaining to co-morbidity was not derived from Glenmark&#8217;s ongoing late-stage trial of favipiravir, the company said, adding that reference to co-morbidity was based on data from Japanese clinical studies and that none of the company&#8217;s product information for FabiFlu make any such claims.<\/p>\n<p>Anti-flu drug favipiravir is manufactured under the brand name Avigan by a unit of Japan&#8217;s Fujifilm Holdings Corp .
