KOLKATA: Police cracked a car-theft case using artificial intelligence (AI) while analyzing a CCTV footage to nab the accused. The stolen SUV, which belonged to dean of SSKM Hospital, was recovered from near South Suburban School on Saturday, four days after it vanished from Chakraberia Road.
According to south division cops, a crack team from Bhowanipore police started looking into the nearby CCTV footage after receiving the complaint.
“The doctor, Avijit Hazra, had told us he had parked his car at Chakraberia Road South. We begun scanning CCTV footage and got some leads on a person, who was wearing a mask and moving suspiciously close to the car. Since masks are commonly used by criminals, we decided to take it a step further by using AI,” said an officer.
Later, he was identified as Lalbaby Yadav (42). Cops tracked and arrested him from Chakraberia Road south, where he had come to sell the vehicle.
