Kolkata: Three Bangladeshi nationals, including a minor, were nabbed by BSF personnel of the 8Bn while attempting to cross over into India near the Pakhiura BOP in Nadia on Monday.
The details of three persons, suspected to be involved in human trafficking, were ascertained by BSF from Bangladeshi nationals. In 2020, the 8Bn alone has succeeded in apprehending 18 people who were crossing the international border illegally.
“On receiving information from the intelligence wing of BSF, assistant commandant Santosh Kumar led a special team to a spot between the international border and zero line. In the dark, they spotted 4-5 people moving towards India. On being challenged, the group broke up and its members started running in separate directions. The BSF personnel gave chase and succeeded in apprehending the three, including a 6-year-old girl,” a senior BSF official said.
The adults were identified as Dipankar Sikdar and Chandana Dutta of Jhenaidah in Bangladesh. The child is Dutta’s daughter. During interrogation, it came to light that Sikdar would enter India with the help of touts and work in Bengaluru. Dutta resided in Aranghata in Nadia.
