Kolkata: An auto driver was arrested on Monday for allegedly molesting and attempting to kidnap a 24-year-old passenger on a desolate Salt Lake road that forced her to jump off the moving vehicle. The incident happened near Bidhannagar sub-divisional hospital around 8pm on Sunday when the woman was alone in the auto and was heading to her home at AC Block. She had noted down the vehicle’s registration number and based on her complaint, the driver Pralay Mallick, was arrested late on Monday. He was produced in a Salt Lake court and remanded in six days’judicial custody.
“Since the time I had boarded the auto, the driver had started misbehaving with me and touching me inappropriately. I was sitting on the front seat. As the vehicle reached PNB bus stop, he started moving towards City Centre. I protested but he said he would drop other passengers at City Centre,” said the woman.
After all passengers got off at City Centre, the driver allegedly started speeding up towards a desolate road.
“When he slowed down near a speed breaker, I jumped off the vehicle,” she said.
