KOLKATA: The New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) will soon start conducting rapid antigen test of shopkeepers doing business in the NKDA markets in New Town.
NKDA officials said that it was recently decided in the Covid war room to conduct rapid antigen tests of shopkeepers to check and prevent spreading of coronavirus among people. The process to enlist the names of all shopkeepers will start from Monday and they will undergo the rapid antigen test in Bidhannagar sub divisional hospital at Salt Lake, officials said.
NKDA is also conducting health camps to conduct Covid screening of construction workers and labourers. As the only containment zone in New Town so far is a construction site, the authorities are taking precautions to identify construction sites across New Town where there are groups of workers or labourers staying together.
“Those who are being found to be having suspected Covid symptoms are being sent for swab testing in govenment hospitals. So far 10 such workers have been shortlisted who are being tested,” an official said.
NKDA is also registering names to undergo free of cost Covid testing from government hospitals for those who cannot afford to test by paying.
