KOLKATA: The Taratala police has busted a baby product racket, involving traders and truck drivers who diverted topbrand products to other markets instead of supplying them to the markets of Kolkata and Howrah for which they had been packaged. The accused also indulged in hoarding so that they could sell the products at higher prices.
Two persons, S Mohan Rao (26) and Jitendra Roy (31), have been arrested so far but the main culprit is still at large.
According to DC (Behala) Nilanjan Biswas, Debendra and Phul Chand Mali, the driver and owner of a truck respectively entered a criminal conspiracy with others and allegedly misappropriated 270 cartons of the products entrusted to be delivered at Ranihati in Uluberia and Jadavpur.
The driver, Debendra instead, fled away with the loaded truck with goods valuing Rs 7.5 lakhs on August 3.
