Stakeholder meeting on Building the Health and Energy Platform of Action

Co-led by WHO, UNDP, UNDESA and the World Bank, HEPA – the Health and Energy Platform of Action- aims at strengthening the political and technical cooperation between the health and energy sectors at both global and country level, to accelerate the transition to clean energy, with an initial focus on clean cooking and health care facilities.

Following the official launch of HEPA during the WHA last May, this meeting focused on drafting the Platform’s operational framework for collaboration, governance structure and basic roadmap.

The meeting, which took place at WHO HQ on 11-12 September 2019, brought together a variety of stakeholders ranging from Sustainable Energy for All, the Clean Cooking Alliance, the Climate and Clean Air Coalition, the Global LPG Partnerships, IRENA, ENERGIA and Hivos, as well as representatives from GAVI and UNITAR. Discussions at the meeting also provided input for a side event on clean cooking taking place at the UN Climate Action Summit on 22 September and for the Clean Cooking Forum taking place in Nairobi on 5-7 November.
