Mizoram Earthquake: Magnitude-5.3 earthquake hits Mizoram | Shillong News

NEW DELHI: An earthquake of magnitude 5.3 on the Richter Scale hit Mizoram at 4.10am on Monday, according to the National Centre for Seismology.
The epicentre was at Zokhawthar in Champhai district on the India-Myanmar border.

“Two earthquakes rocked Mizoram within a span of 12 hours. Damage assessment undertaken by concerned MLA and district administration. Fortunately, no casualties reported so far. Thanking the Hon’ble Prime Minister and Hon’ble Home Minister for their assurance of support,” the chief minister tweeted.

“Spoke to the Chief Minister of Mizoram, Shri Zoramthanga Ji, on the situation in the wake of the earthquake there. Assured all possible support from the Centre,” the prime minister had tweeted earlier.
Union home minister Amit Shah also spoke to the chief minister and took stock of the situation.

The tremors were felt in several parts of the state, including state capital Aizawl, a state official said.

Several houses and buildings in Champhai district have been partly damaged due to the quake, he said.
The quake also caused cracks on highways and roads at several places, he added.
