The Indian rupee depreciated in the morning trade amid strengthening American currency even as domestic equities started on a positive note. Currently, the rupee is trading lower at 74.91/$ in the afternoon trade.
The rupee opened lower at 74.74 against US Dollar, down 6 paise over its last close. The local unit had settled at 74.68 against the US dollar on Monday.
Meanwhile, according to the health ministry, the death toll in India rose to 19,693 and the number of infections spiked to 6,97,413.
Further, benchmark indices are trading flat amid volatility as selling pressure witnessed in the banking, metal, energy and infra stocks, while buying seen in the IT and pharma stocks.
