Road blockade from Baghjan EPS lifted but 12 Oil India wells still shut due to protests

Oil India Limited informed the exchanges Thursday that the road blockade from Baghjan EPS to blowout well was lifted after discussion with DC- Tinsukia and SP – Tinsukia. However, twelve numbers of producing wells of Bhaghjan EPS are still shut in due to protests.

“DC- Tinsukia has been apprised of the entire situation and was requested to persuade the protesters to let OIL operate the shut-in wells. Hon’ble Minister of Petroleum & Natural ‘Gas and Minister-of Steel, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan reviewed the progress of capping activities with OIL team over VC yesterday,” company apprised about the latest situation until Wednesday.

Due to stoppage and blockades since blowout of well on May 27, there was production loss of 304 MT of Crude Oil and 0.94 MMSCM of Natural Gas as reported on July 7, 2020. Operations were disrupted in 11 Oil wells and five gas wells. Cumulative production loss since May 27, 2020 due to bandhs and blockades: 9504 Mt Crude oil, 12.91 MMSCM of natural gas.

Surveys for Assessment of damage for compensation by the committee constituted by District Administration are in progress. Damage assessment for 507 families completed In Doomdoorna Circle and 598 families in Tinsukia Circle till July 7, 2020.

Environmental Impact Assessment by MIs ERM is in progress. Air quality monitoring was conducted in Baghjan and Guijan side and noise monitoring was conducted in Guijan Side on July 7, 2020. The study will be continued till one week beyond the date of capping the well successfully.

Sample collection for monitoring of air quality and noise level is in progress for analysis. Recording of data at already installed analysers is in progress

The work for capping of the blowout well is on and debris removal from the well plinth was resumed from July 7 after pulling out the Bulldozer stuck near the well head.

Oil India Ltd is currently trading at Rs101.15 up by Rs0.6 or 0.6% from its previous closing of Rs100.55 on the BSE.
