BSF seizes over 4kg gold along Indo-Bangla border near West Bengal’s Swarupnagar | Kolkata News

KOLKATA: The South Bengal Frontier of the Border Security Force (BSF) on Friday seized over four kilograms of gold being smuggled across the Indo-Bangladesh border near Swarupnagar in North 24-Parganas. The gold, found inside the tyre of a motorcycle, was valued at over Rs 2 crore. A smuggler was also apprehended and handed over to customs officials in Ghojadanga along with the gold.
“Troops of the 153Bn received information and stopped Paresh Roy while he was moving on his motorcycle from the direction of Naipara towards Gobardha village. After a search, 4.357kg gold was found in a cavity inside the rear tyre of the motorcycle. The cache included 10 biscuits weighing 1.166kg, three long bars weighing 1.441kg and other pieces measuring 1.75kg. The gold is valued at Rs 2.03 crore,” a senior BSF official said.
Jawahar Singh Negi, commandant, 153Bn BSF said that personnel of the border guarding force will continue to prevent crime along the border. In 2020, the BSF’s South Bengal Frontier seized 27.384kg gold and apprehended 12 smugglers.
