KOLKATA: Nearly 400 automobile spare parts dealers in central Kolkata will keep their shops closed till July 26 after Covid-19 spread increased in the city. On Wednesday most of their shops, warehouses and offices were kept closed.
“There are nearly 400 automobile spare parts shops in Mangoe Lane, British Indian St, Baretto Lane, Sooterkin St, Meredith St, Waterloo St, Metcalfe St, Weston St, Khairu Place, Khetra Das Lane, Princep St, G.C.Avenue, C.R.Avenue and Dharamtalla St,” said Rita Mitra, president of Calcutta Motor Dealers’ Association.
“We had an Emergent Executive Committee meeting a few days back and the decision was taken there. Majority of the members’ decision was given priority and the situation will be further reviewed on Saturday,” she said. “We have issued a circular and have informed all of our distributors, dealers and retailers,” she added.
Meanwhile the trade associations in Kolkata are coming out with measures to reduce the crowd at the central business district. While some organisations have gone for a complete shutdown, some have opted for odd-even day format to keep shops open.
