KOLKATA: Biswajit Karak, a constable of Kolkata Armed Police, allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself from his service rifle around 3.35pm at Writers’ Buildings at gate 6.
He was rushed to SSKM hospital where he was declared brought dead.
DC (Central) N Sudhir Kumar said that the cause of suicide is being probed. Police are probing if he was suffering from depression or any major disease due to which he took the extreme step.
The Gate 6, where Karak committed suicide, is used by the ministers like Firhad Hakim (urban development), Moloy Ghatak (law), Rajib Banerjee (forest) who have their offices in Writers’ Buildings, as the central gate is under renovation.
Several senior officers also use this gate as other gates are now closed.
The police officers are questioning Karak’s friends and colleagues. His wife is a nursing staff and she was also contacted. Police are trying to find out if he was undergoing any psychiatric treatment.
