Mamata Banerjee
KOLKATA: Chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday indicated her “unhappiness” at flight operations to and from the city airport during lockdown, senior officials said.
The Bengal government is likely to urge the civil aviation ministry to restrict flights on Saturday (July 25) and Wednesday (July 29), the next scheduled total lockdown days. Bengal had invoked the old lockdown regime to declare this bi-weekly lockdown, about which the Centre had been alerted,” said a senior official.
“In the old regime, there was no provision for flights. Why is an exception being made now? The purpose of lockdown is defeated if flights are allowed.” Till late on Thursday, the airport hadn’t received fresh instructions from the ministry on flight operations.
