Barasat: At least 17 people suffered splinter injuries in clashes between TMC and BJP supporters at Sandeshkhali and Gaighata in North 24 Parganas on Saturday after rival groups hurled bombs at each other over alleged corruption in distribution of relief to Amphan-hit people.
A large contingent of police was deployed and 12 people were arrested in the two cases.
At Sandeshkhali’s Hatgachi, BJP supporters agitated in front of a panchayat office to protest alleged corruption over relief distribution. Food minister Jyotipriya Mullick said: “The clash was the fallout of a rivalry between two BJP factions. No TMC supporter was involved.”
At Gaighata’s Phulsara, bombs were hurled after a clash broke out. “A feud between two neighbouring localities over a petty issue turned into a political clash while armed goons were also hired from outside. Some villagers were injured,” a resident said.
